Cognitive Analysis of Metaphors of Love and Sorrow in Shahriar’s (Collection of) lyric poems

Abstract
In recent years, conceptual metaphorical theory has introduced a new metaphorical attitude which has transformed it from a literary and rhetorical device to a tool for understanding and thinking. This research has presented the metaphors of sorrow and love in Shahriar’s lyric poems by investigating the metaphors of the conceptual domains of emotions. The research method is descriptive-analytic and the purpose is to achieve a cognitive pattern from the conceptualization of sorrow and love in these poems. In doing so, we will get familiar with linguistic and cultural characteristics of the poems and the metaphorical relationships with the intellectual and thinking system of Shahriyar. Shahriyar has used different source domains to express the characteristics of sorrow and love. The most widely are “objects", "humans", "places", and "food" that are common in the topics of sorrow and love. Therefore, the feelings of sorrow and love in the poet's intellectual system is largely tangible, tasty, visible, and audible. Another part of the source domain is devoted to abstract attributes that knows sorrow as pain and suffer, passion, mystery, and faith and also counted love as good luck, disaster, faith, and legend.
