Abstract: The current research is a linguistic and historical study of the concept of women's agency and its reflection in the first women's publications in the post-constitutional era. For this purpose, the available issues of Shkoofeh and Zabaane Zanaan as well as some books and articles related to the historiography of women's movements were selected. The data were analyzed in a combined manner based on Van Leeuwen and Halliday's model at the text level and Laclau and Mouffe's theory at the social level. The analysis of the data showed that, although the purpose of publishing these publications was to promote the equal rights of men and women, exclusion and passivation were the dominant strategies of the text. This can be seen as the effect of the dominant patriarchal discourses, which were always a threat and limitation to foreground the discourses raised by women.Also, agency as cultural and social activism was a construct that Iranian women, through the course of history and the multitude of marginalized discourses, had to some extent grasped.
